  • Massage Therapy
    Cosmetology and Wellness

    Founded in 1916, the Swedish Institute is the oldest continuously operating school of massage therapy in the United States and has graduated thousands of massage therapists over the past 100 years. The current massage therapy program is a 64 semester credit hour program that can be completed in as little as 20 months full time. Graduates receive an Associate in Occupational Studies degree in Massage Therapy. Full time and part time study is available and classes are offered on a morning, afternoon and evening schedule. Graduates are eligible to sit for the New York State Licensing Examination in Massage Therapy.

    The Institute has one of the most comprehensive massage therapy programs in the country in terms of curriculum hours, emphasis on therapeutic understanding, clinical training, and integration of Western and Eastern techniques. The dynamic curriculum develops strong skills in Western and Eastern styles of massage, with an emphasis on careful assessment and treatment, professional development and business practices.

    Employment opportunities range from private practice to working in spas, health clubs, on cruise ships, in hospitals and in conjunction with other health professionals.

  • Medical Billing and Coding
    Healthcare Administration

    The Medical Billing and Coding program is a 48 quarter credit hour program that takes full-time students 9 months to complete and leads to a certificate. The program is designed to provide students with the appropriate didactic theory and skills required to begin a career in a billing, office administration and management within a healthcare setting. Students learn medical office administration including patient scheduling, billing, medical office coding, insurance and electronic health records management.

    Employment opportunities include, but are not limited to, physician’s offices, public and private hospitals, inpatient and outpatient facilities, offices of other health practitioners such as chiropractors and optometrists, and in other healthcare settings such as outpatient care centers and nursing homes.

    The Swedish Institute's flexible scheduling options include both day and evening classes for the Medical Billing and Coding program.

  • Clinical Medical Assistant
    Medicine and Health Care

    The Clinical Medical Assistant Certificate program focuses on the clinical skills needed to assist physicians and nurses in physician offices and other healthcare settings. Students learn patient vital signs, standard examinations, phlebotomy/hematology techniques, laboratory procedures, 12-lead electrocardiography (ECG), basic pharmacology and the ethics of patient care. Students also learn typical office administration including reception, patient scheduling, filling and record-keeping, customer service, and an introduction to electronic health records management.
    Graduates receive a Certificate as authorized by the New York State Board of Regents. Students completing this program are eligible to enroll in the Swedish Institute Clinical and Administrative Medical Assistant Degree program.
    Graduates typically work as medical assistants or medical office assistants in single or multi-physician practices, outpatient centers and hospitals. The certificate program is offered during evening hours.

  • Surgical Technology
    Medicine and Health Care

    The Surgical Technologist program prepares students to become an integral part of the surgical team. As a health professional whose primary responsibility is assisting and attending the surgeon, the Surgical Technologist usually works under pressure, with focused concentration, speed and accuracy for extended periods of time. The integrative approach at Swedish Institute will prepare students to work in this important field while caring for themselves and their patients. Students learn anatomy and physiology, surgical procedures, and safe and effective conditions required for surgery. Through laboratory and hands-on practice, students learn proper procedures for creating and maintaining sterile conditions, setting up the operating room, and the preparation of equipment and instruments in advance of surgery.

    The Surgical Technologist program is 94.5 quarter-credit hour program that takes full-time students 18 months to complete and leads to an Associate in Occupational Studies degree. Surgical Technologists work in a variety of settings such as hospital surgical departments, outpatient surgical centers, physician’s offices, ambulatory surgical centers and in the private sector in medical sales, product development and education.

  • Clinical and Administrative Medical Assistant
    Medicine and Health Care

    The Clinical & Administrative Medical Assistant Degree program is a 92.5 quarter credit program that takes full-time students 18 months to complete and leads to an Associate in Occupational Studies Degree. The program focuses on both the clinical and administrative skills needed to assist physicians and other members of the healthcare delivery team. Students learn patient vital signs, standard examinations, phlebotomy/hematology techniques, laboratory procedures, electrocardiography and basic pharmacology. Students also learn medical office administration including patient scheduling, billing, medical office coding, insurance and electronic health records management. Graduates typically work as medical assistants or medical office assistants in single or multi-physician practices, outpatient centers and hospitals. Day and evening schedules are available.

  • Central Service Processing Technician
    Medicine and Health Care

    Are you someone who desires working in the healthcare field but prefer to work directly with the medical team in preparing patient care facility rather working directly with patients? Do you have strong attention to detail and take pride in your meticulous organizational skills? If so, a career in Central Service Processing may be right for you!

    The Central Service Processing Technician program at Swedish Institute (also known as Sterile Processing Technician) provides students with the knowledge and hands-on training that helps prepare them for entry into this career field and be an integral part ensuring medical equipment and supplies are properly cared for, sterilized, and stored.
