  • Medical Office Administration
    Medicine and Health Care

Medical Office Administrators are a fundamental member of the healthcare team. Medical Office Administrators may manage medical records, create electronic health records, process insurance claims, or handle entry-level bookkeeping in a medical setting. The program totals 25 semester credit hours and is scheduled to take approximately 9 months. It contains 560 hours of on-campus instruction and 200 externship site hours, for a total of 760 instructional hours.

Students must complete all on-campus instruction prior to externship, and must complete 140 hours of outside-class assignments throughout the program. Students wishing to attend an externship site requiring a commitment of more than the program’s minimum externship hours may do so voluntarily. Maximum class size is 25 students.

Graduates of the program may be eligible to take various professional certification exams, including the Electronic Health Records Specialist exam, Certified Medical Administrative Assistant exam, and Medical Billing and Coding Specialist exam. Such credentials are not required to graduate but can be of value depending on students’ particular career goals.

  • Vocational Nursing
    Nursing

Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs), sometimes called Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), provide direct medical care to patients under the direction of doctors and registered nurses. LVNs often have more contact with patients than any other member of the healthcare team. If you’re a compassionate person interested in helping others as a nurse, Vocational Nursing training could put you on the path to a rewarding career.

Unitek College offers certificate and associate degree programs in Vocational Nursing. Our intensive 12 month Vocational Nursing Certificate Program covers clinical and theory components to prepare graduates to take the NCLEX-PN licensing exam, and work as a generalist Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). All Unitek College pre-licensure Vocational Nursing students complete clinical rotations at a healthcare facility as a part of their curriculum.

Educational objectives include: collaborating effectively with clients, families, and health care teams to provide holistic care; assisting in the formulation of a problem-solving approach to deliver basic nursing care to clients; and coordinating patient care with other members of a health care team within the standards of practice.
